MADISON COUNTY—Incumbent Magistrate Brian Combs from Dist. 1 kept his seat by 19 votes in the May primary. In Tuesday night's general election, his win was confirmed in his landslide victory over write-in candidate Nick Marcum.
Combs earned 4,623 votes over Marcum's 518.
Overall, there were no changes in the results of May's primary, with most county local candidates running unopposed.
Donna Agee, who defeated incumbent County Judge Executive Reagan Taylor in the primary, was among those whose victories carried them unopposed into Tuesday’s election, alongside the candidates for the magistrates and constables. Agee will be the first woman in Madison County history to not only hold the seat, but also run for the position.

Alongside the County Judge Executive, the May primary reshaped half of the Madison County Fiscal Court, with challenger Bruce Barnes unseating Stephen Lochmueller for Magistrate of Dist. 2 and Chris Sipple winning the Dist. 4 seat after Tom Botkin chose not to run again. Incumbent Billy Ray Hughes retained his Dist. 3 seat.
As of October, 72,539 people in Madison County were registered to vote according to data from the state board of elections.
In total, 30,415 ballots were cast countywide. This year, turnout for early voting held last Thursday through Saturday was much higher than usual at 18%, according to Barger. This year also saw the most election polling officers as well as very few drop-outs among these volunteers, he said on air.
Current tallies are unofficial, pending any re-counts. Results must be certified by the state, and official vote totals will be announced November 10th.
