A 33-year-old man was killed on the job this morning at the Astemo plant in Berea, The Edge can confirm.

"We received a call at 6:50 this morning about an injured maintenance worker who was crushed by machinery he was attempting to work on after it failed," Berea Police Department's Sgt. Barry Manley told The Edge. When officers arrived on the scene, Manley said it was unclear what the status of the worker was.

"After they opened up the machine, however, it was discovered he was deceased," Manley said.

The preliminary cause of death for Bradley Clouse of Richmond is blunt force trauma, according to Deputy Coroner Carlos Coyle. The official cause of death will be announced within two to three months by state officials, Coyle told The Edge in an interview. The coroner's office was called to the scene at 7:38 am, Coyle said.

"The body was sent to Frankfort for state OSHA [Occupational Health and Safety Administration] officials to do an autopsy, since the death occurred at work," Coyle said. Next of kin have been notified, Coyle said.

Just yesterday, Astemo was celebrating a major milestone along with local officials and Gov. Andy Beshear, who visited the plant to announce the Japanese auto parts manufacturer is expanding its facility, a $379 million decision that is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to the plant in coming years.
